Official Match Preview - vs North Hill

Official Match Preview
North Hill vs SAINTS
Saturday 20th February 2010

This week sees the Saints travel to North Hill, who sensationally beat us 2nil at home earlier in the season.
This weekend, we continue again without top goalscorer Iko Silva who is out for 4 weeks, but there is better news on the injury front as influental talisman Andy Kerrigan has shaken off an ankle injury and vice captain Jon Bishop is returning to the squad following 3 months out with a dislocated shoulder.

Dane Jackson Officially Joins The Saints

Its official, after weeks of speculation, Sticker First Team's Dane Jackson joins Charlestown Saints Football Club, and goes straight into the squad for tomoros big game against North Hill.
Jackson, 21, seen here to the left with the real Michael Jackson, is a lightning quick winger who can create chances from nothing.
Manager Jenkin was quoted in todays tabloids as saying... "We have had our eye on Dane since the summer and we are glad to have finally secured the talented lad".

Saints 6 - 1 Delabole Reserves - REPORT

Official Match report from the Duchy League website...
"Tim Osborne scored a brace as Charlestown Saints beat Delabole reserves 6-1. Matt Danneau Andy Kerrigan and Dean Dunn completed the hosts tally. " - Should have read a "hatrick" for Osborne.

Saints Team - Julian, Dunn, Cleeves (Phillips), Stockley (c), Dunphy, Osborne, Housego, Barnard, Kerrigan (Jenkin), Mills, Danneau.

The Saints had a very shakey start to the game this past weekend, but in the end class prevailed as the Saints came through 6-1 winners.

Official Match Preview - vs Delabole Reserves

Official Match Preview
Saturday 13th February
CHARLESTOWN SAINTS vs Delabole Reserves

Its a case of (nearly) top versus bottom this weekend at St Mewan Park as we welcome Delabole to the home of the Saints.

Who can forget the reverse fixture earlier in the season, when manager Jenkin left the now departed Ian Hipwell on the bench, resulting in Wayne Ferguson and Hipwell leaving the club. We prevailed 2nil that day with an inspired performance from player manager Jenkin who's stunning creativity down the right flank set up Tim Osborne to kill the game off.

Manager Jenkin is expected to name a near replica of last weekends successful side who successfully saw of the threat of Tregony. The only absentee from the squad is top goalscorer Iko Silva who is set to be unavailable for upto 4 weeks, following revelations in the tabloids about his private life....the second parts a lie, he's just working.

There are also rumours circulating that Sticker winger Dane Jackson is in the squad for the clash.

Jenkin also welcomes back Ashley Cook-Phillips after his AWOL status last weekend.

Delabole are firmly rooted to the bottom of the league with only 4 points, coming from 1 victory and 1 draw. They have conceded 70!!!! goals and scored just 12.

Of course, Jenkin's phrase of the day will be... 'No Penalties please Stockers'.

Tregony 1 - 2 SAINTS - REPORT

Official Match Report from the Duchy League's Official Website...
"Tregony lost vital ground in their title challenge when beaten 2-1 at home by promotion rivals Charlestown Saints. Tregony faced an uphill struggle after being reduced two ten men after only twenty minutes. Nick Mills and Andy Kerrigan scored the Saints goals with Ross Vicary scoring from the spot for Tregony. "

Saints Team - Julian, Dunn, Cleeves (Hampton), Stockley, Dunphy, Barnard, Osborne, Housego, Kerrigan, Mills, Silva (Danneau)

Unused Sub(s) - Lemon, Jenkin

Manager Ian Jenkin went into Saturdays table topping clash with a strong squad, with just the long term absentee Jon Bishop in the crowd, Ash Phillips AWOL and new signing Steve Clark injured from training.

Jan Cleeves made his long awaited return to Saints action with a very strong performance and his "Delap" like throws caused constant trouble to the Tregony defense.

The first half was end to end with the Saints perhaps just shading it. But the odds were firmly stacked in the Saints favour when a player, rumoured to be linked to the Saints, hacked out at Russell Housego... Justin Trebilcock was then sent off.

The second half kicked off and after superb work down the flank, Housego directed a curling header onto the post, only for Nick Mills to score from a tight angle. The Saints team exploded! 1-0!!!

No-one can forget Andy Kerrigans amazing goal from the Padstow away game earlier in the season. This is a man who pulls out the glory in spectacular fashion, in the big games, and in front of his little lad, i might add...and he did it again, when his spectacular cross-cum-lob found the back of the net. 2-0!!!!!!

Much was made in the papers about the Saints giving away too many penalties, and having only conceded a handful of goals from open play...and Saints Captain Stockley was once again the offender when he brought down a Tregony forward in the Saints box... Penalty. 2-1.

Tregony continued the enslaught, but the Saints held fire.
Saints win a vital 3 points. 2-1.

Man of the Match - Nick Mills.
Honourable Mention - Jan Cleeves, Andy Julian & Spoonfoot Dunphy.

Official Match Preview - vs Tregony

Official Match Preview
Saturday 6th February 2010
Tregony vs CHARLESTOWN SAINTS
As im short on time this week, its a very brief preview.
Father to be, Ian Jenkin has an excellent selection dilemma for this weekends table topping clash with Tregony, with new signing Steve Clark available for selection and a near full squad training on Tuesday Night.
One things for sure... Andrew Julian is expected to be named as goalkeeper for tomoros clash.
Tregony sit one place ahead of us, in 2nd, having played 2 extra games than us. But with only 1 point seperating the 2 sides, a win for the Saints would see us leapfrog our rivals.

Introducing our new signing...

This is the first picture of new Saints super signing, Baby Jenkin.
Although this superstar striker or striker-ess is still in the tummy of Michelle, the partner of Saints Manager Ian Jenkin, there have been, many scouts tapping up this undoubted talent!
Charlestown Saints expect delivery of their new signing Friday 13th August 2010.... yes Friday the 13th.

Match Postponed - Saints vs St Newlyn East

Snow, Rain and Wind made sure that Saturdays much anticipated fixture with St. Newlyn East Reserves, was postponed...again.

Official Match Preview - vs St Newlyn East Reserves

Official Match Preview
Saturday 30th January 2010
Charlestown Saints vs St Newlyn East Reserves
So, the breaking news this week, is that Club Captain Paul Stockley and returning striker Nick Mills will be absent from Saturdays game, as Stockley is being flown away on a romantic weekend...to see Liverpool vs Bolton...
The rumours were confirmed this week when Vice Captain Jon Bishop returned to training at Poltair, but manager Jenkin has also confirmed that Bishop is still a few weeks away from being match fit and available once again for selection. On the plus side, new signing Steve Clark may be available after a transfer from Queens. Oooooo errrrr...
Everybody knows the story, this fixture is the fixture that should have been played at the end of 2009, but St Newlyn East not only turned up late, without a ball and there testicles, but they also refused to play on our carpet like playing surface. This is only adding extra spice to the fixture. St Newlyn East are currently 2nd bottom of Duchy 5, having played 12 and lost 8. Their main threat comes from goalkeeper Neil Curnow, who appears to be the only male in the side, after turning up for the aforementioned abandoned fixture, previously.
Manager Ian Jenkin has been doing his own research this week into the Saints defensive frailties, and out of the 16 goals condeded this season, 7 were from penalty kicks and 1 was an own goal. That said, we still have the 2nd best defensive record in the league.
Revigorated midfielder Andy Kerrigan is expected to get the nod as Saints Captain for the day in the absense of Paul Stockley and Jon Bishop. In a nod to the terrific effort he has put in since his return to fitness, in training and his competitive return last week.
Matt Danneau is expected to lead the line on Saturday, with Iko Silva, as Nicky Mills is away on the romantic weekend (mentioned above, paragraph 1).
4 goal hero Tim Osborne and dynamic midfielder Russell Housego will once again expect to lead the wings, with impressive wingbacks Dean Dunn, Alex Hampton and Ash Phillips all pushing for a starting role.
Gary Dunphy is once again expected to lead the backline, after impressing on 'stand in duty' last weekend. This ball playing footballer created a superb Saints goal against Boscastle.
Returning German, Jan Cleeves is expected to be fully available also after impressing greatly in training.
Theres many rumours surrounding the camp that Manager and Luxury Player Ian Jenkin will feature from the bench. The newspapers were circling outside Saints Headquarters this week when they spotted a JJB bag inside Jenkin Towers, sparking rumours of a football boot purchase.

Saints 7 - 2 Boscastle Reserves - REPORT

Saturday 23rd January 2010
St. Mewan Park

Charlestown Saints vs Boscastle Reserves

Saints Team - Julian, Dunn, Hampton (Phillips), Stockley (c), Dunphy, Housego (Haley), Osborne, M. Barnard (Danneau), Kerrigan, Silva, Mills.

Unused Subs - Paynter, R. Barnard.

Manager Ian Jenkin named a very strong team for the visit of Boscastle Reserves, with 2 goal hero Matt Danneau rested in favour of the returning Nick Mills. A debut for young Dean Dunn at right back was a long anticipated one, and one that didnt disappoint. 2 of the Saints potential new players, Steve & Tom Clark watched on their new teammates with anticipation.

The Saints started the strongest side, as expected with Housego and Osborne causing the visitors problems down the flanks. Iko Silva looked like he was still suffering from the Xmas hangover, but after 42 days without a game, no one looked razor sharp.

Gary Dunphy was solid at the back in place of the injured Jon Bishop, offering the Saints a passing route to the opposing half and it lead to a superbly worked goal. This is just what Jenkin wanted, in his teamtalk.

Now i would of had a more in depth report of the game, if i hadnt fallen on my ass, courtesy of Jace Hobbs (Yes, he spells Jase with a 'c'). Goals came from Tim Osborne with 4, Russell Housego 1, Iko Silva 1 and a Nick Mills penalty. Boscastle had a brief glimmer of hope when Stockley awarded the visitors a penalty, to make it 4-2, but in the end, class prevailed.

Jenkin was quoted by Sky Sports news - "Im delighted with the team performance today, its time we showed the Duchy League, really whos in charge."

Man of the Match - Osborne (4 goals)
Honourable Mentions - Gary Dunphy, Nick Mills, Alex Hampton, Dean Dunn

Charlestown Saints vs Boscastle Reserves

Im gonna keep it short and sweet. Some say that phrase would sum up Dave Jago, but i would beg to differ.

We are in desperate need of returning to action this week and boast a near complete and fit squad, minus vice captain Jon Bishop who is still recovering from his shoulder injury.

Manager Jenkin is rumoured to be re-introducing left back Jan Cleeves into the squad, following a brief time away from the club. Andy Kerrigan came through a full training session superbly and is expected to lead the midfield. Dean Dunn is again expected to make his long awaited Saints debut as will the re-debuting 'Little' Nicky Mills.

Saints Manager Jenkin, will be eager to hit Boscastle hard this weekend after just coming out narrow winners, when the club travelled to Boscastle and came out victors in a thrilling 7 goal game.

Boscastle currently sit 11th in the table and are somewhat struggling having only collected 6 points thus far and only scoring 17 goals.

Pitch Update - Ahead of Boscastle Res Game

Just a quick update on the pitch ahead of Saturdays home match against Boscastle Reserves...
The far side of the pitch is still holding surface water, but as of 3.18pm, id say its playable.

Training Review - Tues 19th Jan

Training Review - Tuesday 19th January 2010
Poltair Astro Turf 8pm.

So Manager Jenkin and coaches Jago and Haley watched over a full squad, as they trained yesterday evening, bar Paul Stockley, Gary Dunphy, Rich Barnard and the injured Jon Bishop. We also saw 3 new faces and 1 returning face. The 3 new faces consisted of a current Luxulyan Sunday League Manager, Steve Clark, his brother Tom Clark and Andrew West, a very accomplished defender. All 3 players made a mega impression on everyone in a very blustry and wet night at Poltair.

We started the evening with a bout of fitness, which pushed the limits of the Saints squad, including fit again Andy Kerrigan, but everyone raised to the challenge and pushed themselves well, impressing the on watching management team.

But he real highlight of the night came in the 8vs 8 match, towards the end of the evening. Manager & Luxury Player Ian Jenkin had the ball rolled back from a Matt Danneau centre kick, and Jenkin delivered a David Beckham-esque curling effort from the halfway line and into the top corner of opposing goalkeeper David Haley's goal.

Magical.

Official Match Preview - vs Bridgerule

Official Match Preview
Saturday 16th January 2010
Charlestown Saints vs Bridgerule
Yes, the man Sky Sports News are hailing as the hottest, sexiest and trendiest new football manager on the block, is 26 today (thats me, by the way) So to start this blog, im gonna sing a little ditty...
"Happy Birthday to Jenks, Happy Birthday to Jenks, Happy Birthday dear Jenksy... Happy Birthday to Me!!"
Now for the official preview... weather permitting...
Bridgerule, like the Saints, entered Duchy 5 this season after proving their pedigree in Devon football. They come to St Mewan Park with a strong start to the season, having won 8 games out of 8 boasting the only 100% record in the league. They have a dynamic veteran who leads the team in Dan Tape, who on occasion this season has been seen in the Top Goalscorers charts. They currently occupy 4th spot, behind the Saints, but have an incredible 3 games in hand over us. Bridgerule are an experienced side, with an average age hitting 30+. They will be a tough team to deal with.
Charlestown welcome back Nick Mills to the club, after his long and drawn out transfer saga was resolved with the re-signing of the veteran striker. Manager Ian Jenkin was quoted "Im delighted to finally have brought Nick back to the club on a long term, undisclosed deal." Also available after completing his 35day ban is new signing Dean Dunn who joins the club as one of the biggest signings of the Duchy season. Throw in the fit again Andy Kerrigan then there is a more than welcome selection head ache.
In goal, Andrew Julia-Julian, as expected will keep his place, even with stiff competition from David John Haley.
In defense, we begin life without the injured Jon Bishop, who dropped his shoulder a little too much in the last game, and dislocated it. Gary Dunphy maybe called upon to do a job in the middle with captain Paul Stockley. At full back, Jenkin has options with Ash Phillips, Alex Hampton, Dan Lemon or even new signing Dean Dunn being able to play there.
Further up the pitch and Jenkin could easily field 6 or 7 midfielders. Osborne, Housego, Kerrigan, Mike & Rich Barnard, Dean Dunn or Nigel Paynter could fill the spots.
Francisco Silva, known throughout the land as 'Chiko' will be undoubtably leading the line, as the clubs top goalscorer, and partnering Silva up front could be either 2 goal hero from St. Mawgen, Matt Danneau or the returning Nick Mills.
Fingers crossed for dry weather.

2009/2010 Squad Review... So Far!

So here is my review of the squad so far...
First of all, id like to express my thanks to my superb backroom team, who, like myself are still "green" to our roles, but are performing well. Assistant Manager Dave Jago, has offered us vigorous and extensive training sessions that has bettered the fitness and abilities of some of our fringe players, making competition for places stronger than ever.
Dave Haley continues in his role as Coach, where possible, and everyone will surely agree that "Hayley" is throughly appreciated in any capacity, be it squad back up player, head chef or general dogs body.
Thanks must go to sponsor and former secretary Nigel Tonkin who was pivotal in getting the club up and running, and hes successor as secretary, player Matt Danneau, who is loving his new role.
So now, i focus on the playing staff here at St Mewan Park... and firstly our new signing...
Dean Dunn
Deano has already applied himself superbly in training, and although signing for the club in November, a ban picked up at former club Grampound, prevented him from a debut in 2009. Everyone at the club is looking forward to seeing this youngster finally in the red and black. Incidently, he nearly signed for me in the summer, but we couldn't agree personal terms, so im delighted to have him on board...finally!
Andrew Julian
Our trusty goalie and expert penalty saver. Ever reliable and growing in confidence with every game. Kept us in many a game, and in my eyes the best goalie in the league by a country mile. First name on the team sheet...purely coz he's the goalie!
Paul Stockley
My first official signing and Club Captain. The former Roche and Lostwithiel manager came to the club with a point to prove and has become very sharp over the duration of the season this far. His voice can be heard for miles.
Jon Bishop
The currently injured Vice Captain of the Club and former St Austell 2nds Captain. Arguably one of the best performers of his generation, "Bear Grylls" drives the team forward from defense with aggression and sarcasm. Get well soon Jonny!
Gary Dunphy
Another former St Austell veteran who has forged a superb partnership with Tim Osborne down the left. Has rediscovered his form and confidence under this management team, and is one of the first names on the team sheet.
Alex Hampton
Another relatively new face to the team who has fit in superbly from day one. A hard trainer and confident young player with the ball. Adding fierce competition to the squad. Super left foot.
Ashley Phillips
Our current trainee referee, Phillips is one of the true clubmen at the Saints. Has filled in at various positions this season and has had his best games for the club so far starting at full back. A terrible cook.
Dan Lemon
Terrible Debut.
Terrible Nipple Blood.
Enough said...
Russell Housego
Since Housego stepped into the team his performances have been getting better and better. Creatively excellent and superbly strong. A key member of the team. Growing leaps and bounds under my eye, no doubt.
Andy Kerrigan
Its been quite a season for Kerrigan. Goal of the season (thus far) against Padstow, A new baby popped out, and a horrendous injury. One of the best players in the squad with the ball at his feet. Been missed.
Rich Barnard
A member of Blunstone-gate, this aggresive player has given 110% for the Saints this season, in the middle of the park and on occasion at full back. A key player with his voice alone. Has been growing as the season continues.
Mike Barnard
Another member of Blunstone-gate, Barnard on his day is a match winner. Performed well in various positions this season and gives 110% every minute. That said, you have to feel there is more to see of this talented lad.
Tim Osborne
Talc, came to the club as an untrained, unproven player. Now perhaps the best player in the league. Jenkin's vision put him at left wing, even with a right foot. Has since developed a left peg and goals to boot. Indispensible to the club.
Nick Mills
This veteran striker started the season with the club, but ventured to pastures new with Duchy Premier's Foxhole. Since returned to his roots and is raring to go again. Lethal around the box, aggresive and a team player. Fantastic signing.
Matt Danneau
The past few weeks have seen Danneau hit a purple patch in form, and with competition for places at an all time high, he seems to have raised the bar in what he expects from himself. Working hard all the time.
"Ch"Iko Silva
Our current top goalscorer, looks like Danyl Johnson. Lightning quick, great left foot, no foot, talent beyond believe on his day. Our first foreign signing and one of our best overall signings. Extremely likeable, as he supports Arsenal.
Nigel Paynter
Another new face,
Yellow carded before his debut, surely means he will go down in history? Looks like Nigel Winterburn.
And those who failed to make the grade and deserve a mention...I think...
Ben Atherton - a likeable lad, who may still have a future with the club. Lightning quick.
Mark Perry - a nutcase, big nutcase. Sort of okay at football.
Wayne Ferguson - Undoubted talent, got homesick, moved closer to home like David Unsworth.
Ian Hipwell - Eye for goal, natural talent, had other commitments away from the game, upping roots for Oz.
Jake Prazsky - Distinctly average.
Jan Cleeves - Good left foot, looks German.
If ive missed anyone out, please post under this.

Pitch Update - Ahead of Bridgerule game

Ahead of the Bridgerule game this weekend, i have been keeping a close eye on the pitch.
As you can see the snow has all melted, leaving the ground soggy and 'moist'. The stones are partially visable, but nothing a good hours work won't cure.
The Saints groundstaff will be keeping a close eye on the pitch before the game, and no doubt a pitch inspection will follow Saturday AM.
Lets hope for NO MORE rain.

Happy New Year, Unhappy Manager...

Happy New Year to you all, as you know i am Ian Jenkin, current Charlestown Saints Football Club manager, and future Torquay Utd manager, aparently.

This blog, is the new and controversial online home of all things Charlestown Saints, until the new website launches at the end of the season.

Here, i will bring you an egotistical view of the club, sometimes talking in the third person, as my role as manager and luxury player, and offer my daily insight to you all, of how i run the club as i see fit. I will post the fixtures, results, my personal view of the games, and player reviews... all here at this web space.

Occassionally i will offer a "Guest Blog" role, where i ask a member of the club to write a blog which will be posted here. My next blog will be a review of the squad, so far, but for now id like to talk briefly about how i feel the season has gone so far, no individual plaudits or slating, that will be in the next blog...

Pre Season...
I was very proud at the start of July to have taken on the role of Saints founder and first ever Charlestown mens manager, so when i booked the pre-season fixtures, i wanted to book some teams with considerable "bite" around Cornwall. We opened with a superb victory over Threemilestone, which we ended up playing away. One particular highlight was the "crunching" tackles of now AWOL player, Mark Perry.
Although we lost 2 games in the pre season period (against Falmouth Ath and Trispen respectively) we sandwiched these with strong performances, by any standard, against Roche and Gary Warren's Sticker Reserves side.
"The future was bright"

The Season so far...
Before the fixtures were announced, i discreetly hoped for an early season start and against our potential rivals Tregony. I got this wish. A fantastic crowd of around 40 people saw us open our season with an unlucky 1-1 draw. Incidently, current secretary Matt Danneau opened the scoring with the first mens goal for Charlestown.
We finished August strongly, with 2 thrilling victories, putting us top of the table.

As September came, I, Ian Jenkin- Charlestown Saints manager, Dave Jago- Saints Assistant Manager, Jon Bishop- Saints Vice Captain, were away "on a jolly" for a friends stag do in Torquay, so Saints Coaches, David Haley & Nigel Tonkin took the reins for the day...and all hell broke loose. We lost 3-2 that day to Mevagissey Reserves, but luckily they fielded an illegal player... 3 points returned to Jenksy's pocket and on the Saints scoreboard.
We also got knocked out of the cup, mid September, against a decent St Dennis team.

Again, Jenkin & Jago were once again away "on a jolly" - this time a superb weekend in Butlins, which i can tell you was messy, but anyway, during this weekend, the Saints once again dropped the ball away to Lanreath in the Junior Cup, losing 4 nil... Its nice to be missed...

Since then, form has been patchy, with strong, vicious maulings of the Duke of Cornwall FC and St Mawgen Reserves, but obviously the weather has been devestating on the footballing program in Cornwall.

This weekend (my birthday weekend, i might add) see's us at home (hopefully) to avenge the loss to a dominant Bridgerule side, in what should be an enthralling encounter. Here's hoping the Saints boys can give me the best birthday present a gaffer could ask for, of 3 points.

Yeeeaaahhhhhhh...
